East Lake County Library to host Hurricane Preparedness

Do you know the difference between a hurricane watch or a hurricane warning and the steps you need to take to keep you and your family safe? Whether you are a long time resident of Florida or a new resident, you can learn something at the East Lake County Library's Hurricane Preparedness program on Monday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. Five NOAA weather radios will be given away as door prizes.

This program will be presented by Spencer Kostas from Lake County Emergency Management and will focus on disaster and emergency preparedness for all hazards. Topics to be covered will include weather terminology; hurricane forecasting; emergency supply kits; evacuation; emergency contingency planning; and what to do before, during and after a hurricane.

In addition, you will be able to obtain informational brochures including the Disaster Supply Checklist, Hurricane Fact Sheet 2014, Weather Radios: An All-Hazards Warning System, Creating a Family Disaster Plan, Lake County Special Needs Program and AlertLake – Emergency Notification System.
