Money Smart Week @ Your Library

'Money Smart Week @ your library,' is a national initiative in its third year between the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank (Chicago) to provide financial literacy programming to help members of your community better manage their personal finances.The Leesburg Public Library will begin the week on Monday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m. with 2 Financial Literacy Modules by Insight Credit Union. The first is CreditAbility – Build a Strong Credit History. You will learn the significance of credit report and score; how to establish credit if you don't have any; how to rebuild a good credit history and pitfalls that cost you plenty.

At 6:30 p.m. the program continues with Digging Out of Debt – What Now? Attendees will learn debt warning signs how to deal with collectors calling and setting up a payoff plan that will to rebuild your credit.

On Tuesday, April 23 the Fruitland Park Library will offer Kids, Money and Learning, a unique program for Pre-school students and their families at 10:30 a.m. This Pre-School Reading Program from UF/IFAS Lake County Extension uses the The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble with Money and Mercer Mayer’s Just Shopping with Mom to teach children about money. The children will have great fun creating their very own bank. Developed by Julie England UF/IFAS Lake County Extension Agent.

Tuesday, April 23 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in room 108 A in the Cooper Memorial Library we will offer How to Create a Spending Plan That You Can Live With. Julie England, IFAS Extension Agent will cover how your personality affects your spending and taking steps to create a plan to meet your financial goals. Participants will create a spending plan and establish goals for a secure financial future

On Wednesday, April 24, two programs will be offered in the City of Tavares Public Library by participating partners of Insight Credit Union. The first, Social Security- What You Need to Know will be held at 2 p.m. with TransAmerica. Representatives Ed Lively and Dennis Kaiser will talk about the purpose of Social Security, the consequences of taking it too early, reasons to wait and other Social Security secrets! The second program, Florida Wills & Trusts, will be presented at 3 p.m. with Attorney Hisham Shanawany from the Millhorn Law Firm. Learn about preparing Wills in Florida, establishing Trusts and easy ways to avoid PROBATE! Registration is requested: 352-742-6204.
