The East Lake County Library will be hosting the Second East Lake Heritage Festival presented by the East Lake Historical Society, on May 16, 2015.  The event will take place on Armed Forces Day, celebrating local military, historical and natural heritages.  At 9 a.m. there will be an opening ceremony with a warm welcome from Commissioner Leslie Campione. The Flag ceremony will be by the Eustis High School Jr. ROTC, and the invocation by  Dr. Eugene Burley.

Guest Speakers will include Bill Belleville, Dr. Eugene Burley, Commissioner Tim Sullivan, Felix Ramirez, Bob Grenier, Ray Lewis and Dixie Royal.  Scott Amey , Senior Librarian will discuss the history of the library's Veterans’ Wall.

Music will be provided on two stages by Blackwater Creek Bluegrass Band and other local bands and choir groups. The Avian Reconditioning Center will present a program featuring Ike the Eagle and three other species of rescued birds. Historical military vehicles and a civil war re-enactment campsite will be on display.

The Sorrento Country Store will sell locally produced food items such as blueberries, honey and jams and jellies, and provide local crafters and craftsmen, including scissors and knife sharpeners. Displays are provided by park and trails organizations, Historical Societies and many other civic groups. The library will conduct continuous children’s crafts all day. Comfort food will be for sale.The event will end at 3 p.m. with the retirement of the Colors with Taps and pigeons release.
