10 teens from the Marion Baysinger Memorial County Library in Groveland won first place in the 2015 Teen Video Challenge sponsored by the Division of Library and Information Service’s Collaborative Summer Library Program. The winning video from Florida will become an official Teen Public Service Announcement and will receive $150 with additional prizes for their library.

Public libraries all across the United States participate in the Collaborative Summer Library Program, a grassroots consortium of states working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for public libraries. In the Collaborative Summer Library Program teen video challenge, teens made videos to encourage others to use public libraries and to promote reading all summer long. Each year teens are invited to enter by creating a public service announcement based on that year’s summer reading program theme. The central theme for summer 2015 is “Heroes”.

Lake County Library System will hold the first annual Lake County Teen Video Showcase on Friday, May 1, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Tavares Civic Center. Videos created by teens throughout Lake County will be shown and one video will win $150 sponsored by Insight Credit Union. Young people who attend dressed in their fanciest prom attire, will be eligible to win the $50 prize for “best dressed”. The Marion Baysinger Memorial County Library winning video will also be shown.
