Writing Workshops @ the BookFest

The Lake County Library System’s BookFest, Dreams and Nightmares, will include free writing workshops for beginning to seasoned writers on Saturday, March 14th in the W. T. Bland Public Library!

10 - 11 a.m. The Elements of Characterization
Agent and best-selling author Lucienne Diver will join the YA Chicks, Vivi Barnes and Random House author, Amy Christine Parker "kickin it". Characterization is a crucial part of making a story compelling. In order to interest and move readers, characters need to seem real. The authors will discuss how to achieve this by providing details that make characters individual and particular.

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Crossing Genres
You don’t have to look far to find authors having wild success with focused cross-genre approaches. Three award winning authors C.L. Wilson, Leigh Perry and Nicole Peeler will discuss how to feature a well-defined and consistent blend of paranormal elements, romance and mystery.

1 - 2 p.m. Writing Action: Fight and Love Scenes
Authors Dana Cameron, Karen Chance and Susan Klaus know love and battle scenes have a great deal in common. Both are moments in novels that require all the senses be used to create them. The motivation and outcome are vitally important to the plot.

2:30 - 4 p.m. Emerging Writers with Caighlan Smith
Public reading by winners of the fantasy short story contest sponsored by Writers’ One Flight Up. Author Caighlan Smith, moderator, was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. She is the author of the Surreality series of Young Adult fantasy novels set in a post-apocalyptic world.
