Working with Adult Learners

Want to know more about working with adult learners while you are waiting for the next new tutor training to be scheduled or before you decide to become a volunteer tutor?

Visit the Verizon Literacy Network for free Online Courses and learn more!

The Verizon ThinkFinity Literacy Network is a tremendous resource.  You will find information for potential and existing volunteers on a variety of topics.  The website is user-friendly and you should have no problem reviewing the course catalog and selecting topics that would be interesting and informative..

As a potential tutor, you may want to select from the following courses:

  • Working with Adult Literacy Learners
  • Working with English Language Learners
  • Principles of Adult Learning
  • Volunteering in English Language Learner Literacy Classes
  • Culture and English Language Learners

These self-paced, online courses are not usually longer than one hour (once logged in, you can pause and re-enter the class at any time) and can answer so many questions while preparing you for volunteering as an adult literacy tutor!

In addition to the online courses, you might want to take a look at these:

So, please take advantage of these resources as you wait for the next Lake County Library System new tutor training to be held in your area. Don't forget to print out your course completion certificates so they may be recorded in your tutor file.
